Old-school Italian Spaghetti and Meatballs

Ah spaghetti and meatballs, an all-time family favourite! Provide your family and friends with an easy mid-week meal using your favourite store-bought sauce or make it extra special by adding a pinch of chilli and some sun-dried tomatoes.

Servings 4
Preparation time 30 mins
Cooking time 4 hours

Ingredients

12 Grass-fed beef meatballs 2 tbsp Rice bran oil 1 packet spaghetti or pasta of your choice 4 tbsp Parmesan cheese ITALIAN TOMATO SAUCE: 2 tbsp olive oil 1 onion Finely diced 2 cloves garlic Crushed 1 can diced tomatoes 4 tbsp tomato paste 1/3 cup beef stock or water 1/3 cup chopped fresh basil (or 2 tsp dried basil) 2 tsp dried parsley 2 tsp sugar 1/2 tbsp balsamic vinegar (optional) Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Pasta Sauce: On a medium heat, sauté the garlic and onion with oil in a frying pan. Ensure that they become soft and almost translucent.
  2. Add the rest of the ingredients to your pan and simmer for another 5mins.
  3. After this, remove from the heat. Cooking and assembly: Again, on a medium heat, use a large frying pan to heat the oil.
  4. Fry the meatballs in batches and use tongs to ensure that they are well-browned all over.
  5. Once your meatballs are cooked through, remove them from the heat.
  6. Bring a large pot of salted water to the boil. Cook your pasta for 8-10 minutes (or for however long your packet instructs).
  7. During this time, heat up your sauce in a pan.
  8. Serve: Place your pasta in bowls and top with your meatballs and sauce. Finish with shavings of parmesan
